Subaru Outback vs. the Competition in Atlanta, GA

Subaru Outback Goes Toe-to-Toe with Toyota RAV4 -- Which Compact SUV Pulls Ahead?

If you're on the market for a wagon-become-modern crossover with the near-unparalleled ruggedness to conquer the off-road, look no further than Subaru Outback. For more than two decades, it's been the choice of orienteers in the Atlanta, GA area in need of the capabilities, safety features, accommodations, and technologies to blaze a trail. Of course, Outback has more than a few segment rivals, among them, the new Toyota RAV4. But, at the end of the day, it's Subaru that comes out on top. See for yourself just a few of the ways how here at Classic Subaru of Atlanta!

2019 Subaru Outback vs 2019 Toyota RAV4

  • A spirited 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine comes across the Outback 2.5i lineup. It delivers 175 horsepower backed by 174 pound-feet of torque -- plenty of acceleratory capability and drive for the Alpharetta commute and Roswell, GA road trip alike. RAV4 might feature a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force in-line four-cylinder engine capable of 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet, but the Outback 3.6R Limited and 3.6R Touring trims and their 3.6-liter engine quickly leave it in the dust, shelling out 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet.
  • Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard in every Outback trim, as does a wheel-slip-reducing X-MODE. RAV4 offers a choice of two AWD systems, but both are optional, and Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive only comes standard in the Adventure trim.
  • Turning precision is all but assured in Outback thanks to standard Active Torque Vectoring. You can only get it in RAV4, however, with the upgraded and optional AWD system.
  • With 8.7 inches of ground clearance, Outback towers over obstacles as you head off-grid out of East Cobb or Decatur. RAV4 only gets about an 8.4-to-8.6-inch rise.
  • Outback has more room than RAV4: up to 108.1 cubic feet of passenger space in-cabin, with better front head and leg space.
  • Heated front seats come standard in Outback 2.5i Premium and later. They're only available in RAV4 if you invest in an available package.
  • Taking a boatload of camping gear, luggage, and even an ATV, dirt bike, or other weekend toy is easy with Outback. It features 73.3 cubic feet of max cargo space and can tow up to 2,700 pounds. RAV4 has only up to 69.8 cubic feet and can only shoulder up to 1,500 pounds at base.
  • Outback is more flexible tech-wise, with 6.5- and 8-inch SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia infotainment systems complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. That means you can connect your smartphone and access apps and features from the dash. RAV4 doesn't offer Android smartphone compatibility.
  • Entertainment's the order of any day-trip in Outback, as it makes a 12-speaker, 576-watt-equivalent Harman Kardon sound system available. RAV4 features an optional JBL system, but it has only 11 speakers.
