2022 Subaru Ascent vs. 2022 Ford Explorer
Performance
- Whether you're bringing your kids to school in Atlanta, there's bad weather outside, or you're going on a vacation that's off the beaten path, every new Subaru Ascent model comes equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, providing you with optimal traction, handling, and control on any surface, resulting in greater confidence and freedom when you're behind the wheel. The Ford Explorer lineup offers standard rear-wheel drive, and although all-wheel drive is available on all models, it will cost extra.
- Both the Ford Explorer and the Subaru Ascent models offer similar fuel economy both in the city and on the highway. However, every Subaru Ascent model comes with 19.3 gallons of fuel capacity. The Ford Explorer offers 17.9 gallons of fuel capacity. This allows you to travel further around Atlanta and take longer trips with your friends and family before you have to stop and fill up again.
- Both vehicles come equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Ascent pairs its engine with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) while the Ford Explorer comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A CVT doesn't need to switch gears, allowing you to maintain a smoother driving experience.
- To help you take on bad weather and traverse over obstacles when the terrain gets rough, every new Subaru Ascent model has 8.7-inches of ground clearance, which also leads to a clearer and more commanding view of the road ahead. Every new Ford Explorer model comes with 7.9-inches of ground clearance.
Interior
- The new Subaru Ascent lineup offers more available seating than the Ford Explorer does. The Ascent lineup starts with standard seating for up to eight passengers. The Ford Explorer offers standard seating for up to seven passengers. Opting for second-row captain's chairs in the Ascent will get you seating for seven, or seating for six in the Explorer.
- Cloth upholstery comes standard on both vehicles, with leather upholstery offered on higher trim levels.
Exterior
- Both vehicles offer bold exterior styling with a host of highlights, including standard LED headlights. However, only the Explorer model comes with standard steering-responsive headlights that turn with the wheel.
- Only the Subaru Ascent lineup offers standard raised roof rails.
Technology and Safety
- Both the Subaru Ascent and Ford Explorer offer a suite of standard technology features, including a touchscreen display infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both also offer many standard driver assistance features, with forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and more.
